How things can change in a single minute. The Victorian fires have certainly done that. How do you
react to such a devastating and far reaching event? As quilters it all seems too simple. We ACT.
The 9th of Feb saw me sending out an email to a few local patchwork and quilting friends about
having a sew fest at my house the next Wednesday. What an astounding reaction, from 9am to
9pm quilters came and went with donations of time, fabric, and wadding and as suggested, UFO’s
so we could make some quilts for the survivors. There were also finished quilts in the mix so we
were off to a great start. By the end of a tiring but very satisfying day some decisions had been
made. This was something we all wanted to continue with, making quilts for others in need to
create a little comfort. It is what we do best.
To this end we have formed The Patchwork Gallery Quilt Group.
Over the next few weeks we will be formalising this by registering as a Non Profit Incorporated
Organisation.
In part this means we will have insurance and be totally transparent financially.
We have already had funds donated which we have purchased a roll of wadding, fabric, storage
boxes and books for paperwork.
There were 17 people participate on the first day with others donating or wishing to join our group.
Our next meeting/sew fest will be held at my home 0n 11th March from 10am. Anyone interested in
joining us may contact me on 0412496069 and I will supply my address.
You can see the pictures of the quilts donated and made to date and we will keep posting them as
they are completed.
We will start dispersing quilts in a couple of weeks. We have Quilt friends\members in Kinglake
and Flowerdale who we are working with.
Our first quilt will go to a 12 year old girl in the Children’s Burns Unit who has lost her parents. This
was a special request from one of our financial donors and we are all very pleased to help.
Please feel free to send me questions you might have about our group and what we are doing.
